Silent Lake

We just got back from our camping trip at Silent Lake.

We had a nice campsite.

We had some rain, but not enough to really bother us. Just enough to get everything wet. We saw a deer and a pileated woodpecker.

Above you can see my daughter trying to take the deers picture.
Here is the photograph she took:

We went on hikes, did a geocache and played at the beach. The kids enjoyed the smores, although my son preferred his smores raw.

We all had lots of fun.

Schools Out at the Cottage

We celebrated the end of J.K. by going to the cottage. Contraulations on a great year.

Happy Birthday Granny

We celebrated Granny's birthday at the cottage. The kids made her a gardening apron and baked a cake. We won't say her age though.

Cooling Off

After the soccer tournament, it was cooling off at the splash pad.

Nin Os Kom Tin Part 2

The kids enjoyed the Native festival at the nearby lake on the weekend. They saw a real tipi, made crafts and enjoyed the dancers in their costumes. We even had a buffalo burger, although I question the authenticity.

Happy Father's Day

Dad proudly displays his new hand painted barbeque apron and beer bottle holder.
Thanks kids for a great day.

Aboriginal Awareness Day

We had fun at the Aboriginal Awareness Day event at the Crawford Lake Iroquois village reconstruction project. Here the kids are seen talking to Chief Top Leaf. We walked through the Native Village, had hemlock tea, made some crafts and listened to stories.

Here is my son, outsmarting his dad in a game of rattlesnake.

Father Goose

I saw Bill Lishman at a conference I went to during the week, and I found it interesting and funny. He is a great talker. You can read about him here.

Eco-projects

The kids display the fish made out of old pop bottles that they made for their Granny's garden show. Other projects in the works or being contemplated include:
  • A re-tired horse
  • Snakes made of old ties
  • A dinosaur made out of chicken bones

Dinosaurs

I enjoyed the "Dinosaurs" exhibit at the zoo. The dinosaurs move and made noises. The kids liked it, but they were so lifelike that they were a bit afraid.

Do we need a bigger pool?

The kids had a lot of fun excaping the heat in our blow up pool. It is small now that they are so big, but they enjoy splashing around.

Our First Practise

Coach Kent (thats me) was very proud of my soccer team as we finished our first practice last night. The team looks great and is doing a fantastic job.
HI HO SILVER!

In the Tiki Tiki Tiki Room

My daughter had her ballet recital on the weekend.
It was great.
She was a Tiki Bird in the Tiki Room and did a really great job. The show was very entertaining, and we bought the DVD. The ballet studio has done well by us.

Happy Victoria Day

Happy Victoria Day.

In the photo, my daughter and son celebrate with some sparklers.

Tadpoles

We collected baby tadpoles, and we are going to feed them and watch them change into frogs. I will post photos as they grow. Consider it our own science experiment.

Opening up the cottage

It was a warm sunny weekend at the cottage.

We launched the boat, went fishing, went for hikes and collected fiddleheads. The bugs weren't too bad, and I even set up my telescope. The kids had a great time.

Travel coin race. the results

Our travel coin travelled over 13000 miles in one year. We came in 11th place out of over 120 teams in the travel coin race. That's not too bad, considering our coin was lost for 4 months. Thanks a bundle to the organizers. It was a lot of fun.

Happy Mother's Day to You

The kids sang their mothers day song (Happy Mother's Day to You or Happy Birthday to Mother's Day), made cards, and gave Sharon a special book and a tied dyed hat. We went to the zoo, and I made mommy a special dinner (perogy pizza!!!)

Grand opening

My daughers school had its grand opening last week. They barbequed hotdogs and hamburgers, the kids read speeches, there was the school song, and the cutting of the ribbon.
