Tottling

The kids had a lot of fun at Tottle for Tots on Saturday at the Toronto Zoo.

The money raised went to Ronald McDonald House, and they saw some good shows, collected stickers, played games and walked around the zoo. My daughter got up on stage to dance to Dan the Music Man

(Where's Waldo?)

We also enjoyed the Robert Munsch stories.

The weather held out and it was a great day.

Our New Girl

On Friday we got our new dog, Misty. She is a 3 or 4 year old Sheppard Collie cross, about 40 lbs. She is a very nice dog and very good and friendly with the kids. She is good with other dogs and appears to be good with cats too. The kids are very excited about having her and enjoy petting and walking with her. We got her from a rescue group in Oshawa. The lady who runs the group was looking after a dog up the road from where Misty was and saw her in her outdoor kennel all the time. She kept trying to contact someone at the house but no one was home. Finally she left a note and got a call from the owner. They had moved in May and were trying to find someone to take Misty. He was coming by once a day to feed her, otherwise she was alone all day. He was happy to have help finding Misty a new home. She was always kept in the kennel and was never in the house. When she came to our house she was afraid of going on the stairs at first. She is getting better at them now. She has also had a few accidents since she has been used to going in her kennel.

Sharon will take her to training class soon as she does not know any commands. She also doesn't know what to do with dog toys or to chase a ball etc. We have lots to teach her so it will be lots of fun for us. She loves attention and really enjoys her walks.

We took her geocaching on the weekend. She was kind of funny. She would be sniffing along and then suddenly jump back and when we looked there would be nothing there but grass or dirt or a rock. She did it quite a few times as if she came across something unexpected, perhaps it was new smells. She is settling in very nicely I think she is happy with her new home. We are confident that she will work out great.

Plums, plums, plums, plums, plums, plums

How many different things can you make out of plums? We have had:

  • plum tort,
  • plum muffins,
  • plum jam,
  • plum ketchup.

Still to come: Plum Chutney, Plum Salsa

And we have given bags and bags of plums away to neighbours and friends. It has been a record crop of plums this year.

Fall Activities

We started swimming lessons last night for the kids. They both did really good. My daughter is taking ballet again and my son is in kindergarten (gymnastics). They are both having a lot of fun.

Looks like Sharon will be taking our new dog to dog obedience lessons, and me, well I am just trying to relax.

First day of school

My daughter had her first day of school today and it went great! She said it was fun, her teacher really is nice and she can't wait to go again! The best part was the play house centre and they all drew pictures of themselves. This afternoon she made a picture to take to her teacher when she goes back.

Burnside Company Picnic

The kids had a lot of fun at the Burnside company picnic on the weekend. We entered the farmer olympics (photo shows dad and daugher in the wheel barrow race), made tie died shirts, bracelets and played with other kids.

They enjoyed the go-carts.

But the best part was the ice cream trough.

Full House at the Cottage

Twenty-two of us ventured to Haliburton this weekend, despite the gloomy forecasts. All in all, we had a great day on Saturday. People on the lake must have thought they saw a ghost, when they saw the old boat racing around the lake. The kids enjoyed the boat rides, and the canoe trips and fishing.

Despite the power-failure, we enjoyed the monopoly.

We hope to be back for Thanksgiving.

Pizza faces

Pizza faces are our new favourite lunch. My daughter and I had fun doing this little clip art.

Who says you can't play with your food?
